Spotlight: Bishopthorpe White Rose Girls U15s
Bishopthorpe White Rose’s U15 girls’ team enjoyed a remarkable season in 2023-24, as the team accomplished an impressive league and cup double.
Not only did the club’s U15 girls’ team emerge winners of the York & District Football League Under-15 Division 1 title, they would also go on to lift the York FA Cup.
Last term saw 12 teams make up Division 1 of the York & District Football League at under-15 age group, which resulted in several teams competing for the league title right up to the final games of the season.
Needless to say, it was a hugely exciting campaign.
However, it was in April that the team showed great resilience to cement their claim for the title. Bad weather resulted in a lot of postponed fixtures at the start of 2024, which led to Bishopthorpe White Rose’s U15s playing 11 matches in the space of 24 days.
If that wasn’t enough, the team needed to win all of those games in order to claim the league title.
Against the odds, the team succeeded in their goal of claiming 11 victories, which culminated in a ‘winner takes all’ league match against York RI.
“Alongside those league fixtures, the team also progressed to the York FA Cup final,” explains the team’s coach, Kim Dann.
“That final provided a special occasion for everyone involved as the team emerged winners and lifted the trophy at York City’s LNER Community Stadium. It was a magical evening for everyone.
“Everyone at the club, the coaches, and all of the parents are immensely proud of the girls’ achievements.”
Congratulations on an incredible 2023-24 season – and here’s to more success in 2024-25.
