Smokefree Sidelines
What does being a Smoke Free Sidelines Club mean?
It means that smoking is not allowed on the sidelines or anywhere in view of children.
This includes:
- Anywhere inside (as per smokefree regulations)
- Anywhere on the playing fields, including the sidelines of the pitches
- Near exits, entrances, windows or doorways of any buildings
- In cars parked on site (where children are inside)

North Yorkshire Smoke-Free Sidelines
Campaign Credit - Emmerson Marketing
North Riding FA has been working with the team at North Yorkshire Health and North Yorkshire Sport for several years now on the smoke-free clubs initiative. We wanted to target certain facilities and leagues so it was great to work with Everyone Active, Scarborough Athletic, Scarborough Ladies and the Scarborough and District Minor League on how we can both educate and implement smoke-free messaging for participants, coaches and spectators in football.
Two successful applications were made to the North Yorkshire County Council Smoke-Free Places Grant that will enable signage and educational messaging to be situated at facilities and be distributed to local schools to embed the message of creating a healthy smoke-free environment to play sports
