No Barriers - MFC Academy to Promote Diversity in Football
As part of Middlesbrough FC Academy’s aim to encourage youngsters from diverse backgrounds to learn more about the Club, the Academy’s young players will be working closely with the BAME community over the coming weeks to promote the message that there are no barriers in football.
The project pays tribute to former professional footballer and British Army Officer Walter Tull (pictured), who was born in Folkestone of Afro-Caribbean decent and was only the third person of mixed heritage to play top-flight football in this country when he represented Tottenham Hotspur in 1909. Sadly, he was killed in action just nine years later during the First World War.
North Riding FA is proud to be supporting the initiative, and will be attending an event at Boro Academy on Tuesday 30 October to educate parents and players on ways of getting into football.
