Sportsguard are North Riding FA’s official insurance providers and offer statutory insurance cover for FA affiliated clubs through their club cover insurance scheme.

Following a high-profile insurance case involving Ossett United FC, North Riding FA would like to share the following message, which has been issued by Sportsguard.

All amateur clubs affiliated to the North Riding Football Association Ltd are covered under the County FA scheme.

The Policy excludes Player to Player Liability; however, there is Legal Defence Costs included for £200,000.

Player to Player Liability is NOT available in the UK anymore as the risk is far too high and clubs could never afford the premium that would be required.

The Policy you have is strictly for amateur clubs and does NOT cover clubs with contracted players to the English FA.

The Ossett United claim is against a semi-professional club with contracted players, which constitutes them being employed and that is why the club have been deemed responsible for their employee.

Please be assured the Policy you have in place is more than adequate for your club’s needs.

The important thing to remember is that your Policy is for amateurs and that keeps the Premium down.
